The
New York Mets Hall of Heroes
Inductions by Year
You will undoubtedly notice that
each year ending in a "9" has a flood of inductees.
That is because the end of each decade sees the naming of decade leaders and
All-Decade Teams.
Throughout the course of each decade, though, there are possibly new inductees
each year,
on the basis of being Hitters or Pitchers of the Year, or by being a
championship manager,
or by being an otherwise-excluded inductee to the official New York Mets Hall
of Fame.
Lest you think that this list is
overbalanced in the 1960s, remember that several players
who would have qualified in the 1970s had already been enshrined by that point
by virtue of
previously having been inducted in the 1960s; the same applies for every
following decade, of course.
There was also a significant bump in the early 1980s, due to the creation of
the official New York Mets Hall of Fame, which enshrined many members who
did not qualify under the statistical guidelines of the New York Mets Hall of
Heroes.
The 1880s New York Metropolitans
appear beneath the modern lists.
