Died: June 6, 1911 in New York, NY
Charley Jones was one of the fine slugging
stars of professional baseball for the best part of a decade, mostly with
Cincinnati, and was at one time the all-time single-season home run leader. The
fading Mets of 1887 picked up the fading star to man the outfield for them
midway through the season, and he was a solid contributor for them, though not
the career .300 hitter they had hoped they were receiving. When the franchise
moved to the midwest the following year, Charley
became a Kansas City Cowboy for only six games, and then was through. The
