Ed Kennedy
Edward Kennedy
Batted: unknown
Threw: unknown
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 150 lbs.
Born: April 1, 1856 in Carbondale, PA
Died: May 20, 1905 in New York, NY
Ed was somehow a starting outfielder for three seasons despite an
almost mystical inability to produce at the plate. He was a fulltime starter
for the 1884 American Association champions, and batted .190 with nine
extra-base hits in nearly 400 plate appearances! He must've been a wonder with
the glove. Or perhaps he was married to the owner's sister ... records from
that age are sketchy. To be fair to Ed, he did share the Mets' home-run crown
for 1883, with his total of ... two. The picture of Ed shown here is a detail
from a team picture found on Doc Lawson's Vintage Base Ball Page. Click on the SABR link at the bottom of this
page to read a complete biography about Ed.
