Mike Hessman
Michael Steven Hessman
Batted: Right
Threw: Right
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 215 lbs.
Born: March 5, 1978 in Fountain Valley, CA
Drafted: 15th round 1996 by the Atlanta Braves
Acquired: as a free agent, December 2009
Departed: as a free agent, November 2010
Now the minor leagues' all-time home run
leader, Big Hess made his Mets debut in July 2010 at age 32. Hit at least one
home run in every big-league season despite never garnering as many as seventy
at-bats. In 2014 became the International League's all-time leading home run
hitter, breaking a record that had stood since 1945, and in August of 2015,
took over the crown for the minor leagues as a whole—a record that had lasted
since 1937. To quote Rodger Sherman of SB Nation: "He is the first person to
hit more than 400 minor league home runs born after the start of World War I.
The man whose record he broke, Buzz Arlett, retired in 1937 and died in
1964." A card from 2003 Upper Deck
SP Authentic is shown here; a minor-league card from the year he appeared with
the Mets is below.

This is a list of the cards of this player
that I had in my Mets collection before I transferred the ownership of said
collection to another diligent and capable Mets fan. The cards that are listed
in light gray print and struck through are cards that were sold for charity
prior to my divestiture. The cards
listed in white text are the ones that still remained until that final
deal. Items listed in green I kept out
of the deal, just so I'd have something to display in my office and den. At the bottom and listed in orange text are
cards that I picked up after the dealing was done, in order to maintain a
certain continuity at this site; that is, so I'd have a card to show you at the
top of the page, and maybe in the autographs and game-used areas. If an orange card is struck through, it has
also departed the collection. I’m still
accepting donations, should you feel so moved.
