The
New York Mets Hall of Heroes
Qualifications
The sixth avenue to achieve
enshrinement in the New York Mets Hall of Heroes
is to be a member of one of the Decade Greats Teams chosen by Rounding Third,
and amplified by Linear Weights calculations.
These Decade Greats selections differ from the earlier All-Decade Teams
in that they reward several years of good production as opposed to
a single stellar season.
Players listed are the top
twenty-five finishers in total hitting or pitching production
for each decade, using the HoY/PoY
formulae described elsewhere.
Players actually selected to the squads are chosen on the same basis as the
All-Decade Teams;
that is, six outfielders, two catchers, two first basemen,
a second baseman, third baseman, shortstop, and the next two highest-scoring
infielders of different positions.
Pitching staffs are comprised of five starters, two closers (a season with at
least ten saves),
and three more relievers (at least half of their appearances as a reliever for
the decade).
Players in bold type "made
the team." The rest of the top twenty-fives are shown
for the sake of very honorable mention.

Notes
on the calculations used: 1. The points are tabulated on the basis of the combination of the old Rounding Third calculation melded with Linear Weights, which is described elsewhere on this website. For ranking purposes, the columns are weighted as follows: three parts Best Season, five parts Total Points, and two parts Points per Season. These rankings are completely arbitrary on my part and are open to argument, but of course, all "top so-and-so" rankings are open to argument. If you wish to use a different methodology, I encourage you to do so, and publish your results on your own website. The more the merrier! |
